- 1.0 GENERAL INFORMATION
-
-
- 1.1 GENERAL ---
-
- Please see the KB0ZPLOG.DOC for all the general information. (Section 1.0)
-
-
- 2.0 GETTING STARTED ---
-
-
-
- 2.1 SELF EXTRACTING FILES ---
-
- 2.1.1 Registered Copy ---
-
- You will receive one disc. The programs will be ARCed. And, must be
- unARCed before using. The README.1ST file will give you the
- instructions.
-
- 2.1.2 Shareware Copy ---
-
- This disk will only have one file. It is self unarcing and contains
- all the shareware files. This must be unarced on a hard disk or to a
- 1.4Mb floppy. Copy the file to the 1.4Mb floppy and then type the
- filename to unarc. The unarced file will expand to over 550K.
-
-
- 2.2 START FROM FLOPPIES ---
-
- 2.2.1 A: Drive Only ---
-
- Place the file KB0ZPRPT.EXE in drive A: and type KB0ZPRPT to start the
- program. When asked which drive for the data, answer A:. Then remove
- the program disc and insert the data disk in drive A:.
-
- 2.2.2 A: & B: Drives ---
-
- Place the file KB0ZPRPT in drive A: and the data disc in drive B:.
- From drive A: type KB0ZPRPT to start the program. When asked which
- drive for the data, answer B:.
-
-
- 2.3 START WITH A HARD DISK ---
-
- Create a directory for the main program and copy KB0ZPLOG to that
- directory. Create a directory for the data. From the main program
- directory type KB0ZPRPT to start the program. When asked which drive for
- the data, you may enter the directory you created for the data. Any DOS
- acceptable command will work.
-
- 3.0 OPERATING THE PROGRAM
-
-
-
- 3.1 STARTING THE PROGRAM ---
-
- To run the program from whatever disk or directory you may be using just
- type (KB0ZPRPT) and then press enter.
-
-
- 3.2 BILLBOARD ---
-
- The first screen you will see is the Billboard. This screen will give you
- information such as which version of the program you are using. It also
- shows my CompuServe ID# in case you wish to use that service for any
- suggestions. To move on, just press any key.
-
-
- 3.3 SELECT THE PATH ---
-
- Enter the path to where you have the data stored. Follow the examples
- given. Remember to add a colon (:) after a single drive entry. ie A:. The
- computer will add \KB0ZP-1.DTA and \KB0ZP-2.DTA to the path that you enter.
- If the data is stored in C:\CONTEST\FIELDDAY\1991 then that is all you will
- enter. Look for the two KB0ZP files in that directory after the
- contest. Actually, any DOS acceptable form is OK.
-
- 3.3.1 Backspace ---
-
- If you make a mistake in entering the path, the backspace may be used
- to correct the error.
-
- 3.3.2 Left Arrow ---
-
- If you make a mistake in entering the path, the left arrow may be used
- to correct the error.
-
- 3.3.3 Delete ---
-
- If you make a mistake in entering the path, the DEL key may be used to
- correct the error.
-
- 4.0 MISCELLANEOUS DIRECTORY
-
- 4.1 GENERAL ---
-
- This is the first of four directories you will see. Here are all the sub-
- programs that I don't want to put in the other directories. This is where
- most of your suggestions will be added.
-
- 4.2 SETUP (A) ---
-
- The Setup option is the most important and also the most difficult to run.
- You will need a copy of your printers users manual for some of the codes.
- If this Setup option is not done correctly, your printouts may not be done
- as designed. Let me know if you have trouble. Let's take it step by step:
-
- 4.2.1 Name ---
-
- Just enter your name as you would like to see it on the printouts. You
- will not be allowed to leave any of these entries blank.
-
- 4.2.2 Address ---
-
- Enter your mailing street address here.
-
- 4.2.3 City ---
-
- Here you will enter your city name.
-
- 4.2.4 State ---
-
- Enter your two letter post office state code here.
-
- 4.2.5 Zip ---
-
- You have room for a nine digit zip code plus a hyphen.
-
- 4.2.6 Escape Control Number ---
-
- Check your printer handbook for this number. From now on, if you just
- press enter, the values shown will be used. These default values are
- the IBM codes commonly used. If you change this number, you will see
- all the similar numbers change at the same time.
-
- 4.2.7 Initialize The Printer ---
-
- Note here that the first number shown is the same as above. You should
- also note that it is the same as in your printer guide. At this point
- you will only be allowed to change the second number. When the change
- is made, if necessary, the format will be the same as in your printers
- guide.
-
- 4.2.8 Condensed Printing ---
-
- This should be a one number command only. Make sure that it is OK.
-
- 4.2.9 Double Wide Printing ---
-
- This should also be only one number.
-
- 4.2.10 Return To Normal Print Mode ---
-
- As above.
-
- 4.2.11 Form Feed ---
-
- As above.
-
- 4.2.12 Underlining ---
-
- The underlining command is usually 3 numbers. The first has already
- been set by the Escape Code. The second you now have a chance to
- change. The third is probably referred to in the printers guide as a
- lower case n. Don't worry about that one. The computer program will
- handle that.
-
- 4.2.13 Left Margin ---
-
- Do not confuse this with a TAB. It is the Left Margin Control that is
- in your printer, not the computer. It is the control that moves, to
- the right, all characters n number of spaces. It is also the control
- code that moves the underscored characters to the right so you don't
- have any unwanted lines. Again, the first number is the Escape Code.
- The second you will change. And, the third, the program will handle.
-
- 4.2.14 More Info ---
-
- Just remember, that if what you do here doesn't look right on your
- computer, you can always try again. Now, when ENTER is pressed, a new
- file called KB0ZPCON.FIG will be created. Anytime you are printing a
- form or listing etc. this file must be available. So, make many copies
- of it so you won't have to go through that excersize any more.
-
-
- 4.3 TEST DISC (B) ---
-
- This only works on Drive A:. Make sure that you have a disk in Drive A: and
- press ENTER. You will now be asked, How many contacts do you want? Just
- pick a number. Say, 35. Type 35 [ENTER] and 35 random contacts will be
- written to your disc. Brand new KB0ZP-1.DTA and KB0ZP-2.DTA files will be
- created. That is why this only works on your Drive A:. This option will
- overwrite and destroy any original KB0ZP-1.DTA and KB0ZP-2.DTA files. Now,
- these files may be used to test out the program. Don't forget to copy the
- KB0ZPCON.FIG file to the same directory.
-
-
- 4.4 DOS SHELL (C) ---
-
- This is a DOS Shell. Press (C) and you will be taken out of the program and
- directly into DOS. Now any DOS command will work. After completeing the
- above enter DIR A: [ENTER] and you should see a directory of the A: drive.
- Type EXIT [ENTER] to return to the program.
-
- 4.5 FIX THE CONTACT LISTING (D) ---
-
- 4.5.1 GENERAL ---
-
- This part of the program actually reads what is in your data file on
- the disk. It shows you the actual record of all your contacts. The
- data shown here is your only permanent record of your contacts.
- Immediately after the contest, make one or more backup copies of these
- files for safe keeping. (KB0ZP-1.DTA and KB0ZP-2.DTA)
-
- Each page of the listing shows 20 contacts in numerical order. Upon
- bringing up this page it will start with number one.
-
- 4.5.1 ARROW KEYS ---
-
- Press the up or down arrow to move the screen up or down one contact
- at a time. When you have reached the top of the file, you will be at
- contact number one. When you reach the bottom of the file, a flashing
- sign in the lower right hand corner will indicate that you are at the
- end of the file.
-
-
- 4.5.1.1 PgUp, PgDn KEYS ---
-
- Press the (PgUp) or (PgDn) keys to move the screen one page at a
- time (20 contacts). The top and bottom limits will be shown as
- above (See 8.2)
-
- 4.5.1.2 Home, End KEYS ---
-
- Press the (END) key to go directly to the end of the file. The
- (HOME) key will bring you back to the beginning of the file.
-
- 4.5.1.3 Esc KEY ---
-
- To return to the main screen, press the (ESC) key.
-
-
- 4.5.2 WHERE TO ---
-
- Press (F1) to go directly to a specific contact. You will be asked
- "where to?". Enter the number of the contact you wish to view. Press
- (ENTER). That contact will appear in the fifth position from the top.
- I have done this so that if you guess a little off, you will still be
- able to find the contact you want.
-
-
- 4.5.3 CHANGE ---
-
- Once you know the contact number of the contact you wish to change,
- press (F2). Then enter the contact number you wish to change. You will
- then see the contact and all its information displayed. If you wish to
- return to the contest, press (Q)
-
- 4.5.3.1 Changes ---
-
- Press (A thru G) to make changes one at a time. You will be given
- a chance to change whatever information you feel necessary.
-
- 4.5.3.2 No Changes ---
-
- If you made a mistake or just don't want to change anything press
- (H). You will then back out of the disk readout. (See 8.7) This
- will cancel out all the changes made (See 8.7.1) and restore the
- record to its original form.
-
- 4.5.3.3 Delete the Entry ---
-
- If you wish to delete the entire entry, press (I). The entry will
- be deleted and the word DELETED will appear as the call sign when
- viewed in the listing. (See 8.1) None of the contact numbers
- after the deleted contact will be changed. This has been agreed
- to by the ARRL so that all check logs will agree.
-
- 4.5.3.4 Accept Changes ---
-
- After you have made the changes necessary, press (J) to accept
- the changes.
-
- 4.6 RE-DUPE (E) ---
-
- After making changes in your data file (KB0ZP-1.DTA) with the corrections
- option above, you really don't know if you have created any duplicates. The
- Re-duping option will check for dupes and create a new file (KB0ZP-3.DTA)
- with all the newly created (if any) dupes removed. copy this new file to
- its own directory or disk and rename it with the REN command from DOS. See
- your DOS book for details. The command works like this:
-
- A:> REN (oldname) (newname)
-
- or
-
- A:> REN KB0ZP-3.DTA KB0ZP-1.DTA
-
- Make sure that you don't have another KB0ZP-1.DTA in the same path or it
- will be destroyed. Now this newly created KB0ZP-1.DTA file becomes your new
- data file. It must be named KB0ZP-1.DTA or the programs won't read it. Now
- when you make printouts, the duplicate contacts will not have a contact
- number but read DUPE. The numbering of your contacts will not be changed.
-
- At this time, I should mention that immediately after the contest, you
- should make a copy of the KB0ZP-1.DTA and KB0ZP-2.DTA files. Put them on a
- 360K disk with nothing else. Label the disk. Store in a safe place. All the
- information for 4,000 contacts will fit on one disk. PLEASE DO THIS! As you
- can see, it is very easy to loose files. And, all it takes is a little time
- and a disk. 360K disks now sell for about 21 cents. So, your excuse can't
- be money.
-
- 4.7 (F) CONVERT THE DATA ---
-
- Your data file, KB0ZP-1.DTA may be converted into any of four different
- formats for use by other programs. If you have a large number of contacts,
- it is best to do this operation on Drive C:. You will be creating KB0ZP-
- 5.DTA in the same directory as KB0ZP-1.DTA.
-
- 4.7.1 WordPerfect (A) ---
-
- 4.7.2 ASCII (B) ---
-
- 4.7.3 Comma Delimited (C) ---
-
- 4.7.4 Comma & Double Quote Delimited (D) ---
-
- 4.7.5 Esc ---
-
- Use the Esc. Key to exit.
-
-
- 4.8 CHANGE THE PATH (G) ---
-
- Use this option to change the path. I have added this option so you don't
- have to exit the program to accomplish the same thing. The screen that will
- be shown is the same as what you saw in the beginning.
-
-
- 4.9 LABELS (H) ---
-
- This program can create QSL labels on 3 1/2 x 15/16 inch labels (one up).
- When asked for the call sign, enter ALL and all contacts in the data bank
- will be used for labels. If you enter a specific call sign, just that one
- will be printed.
-
-
- 4.10 ZONE, PREFIX & COUNTRY TEST (I) ---
-
- Enter the call sign of the station you wish to check. You will be shown the
- Country, CQ Zone, Official Prefix, and ITU Zone of the call sign entered.
-
- To exit the program, just enter no call sign.
